Kidus School
Kidus school currently enrolls 100+ students, kindergarten through 3rd grade
Vision
Reducing the barrier to education is key to eradicating poverty. Our goal is to build Kidus school to be K- 12th grade, while maintaining an unmatched quality of education. We aspire to make a cross generational impact on the lives of many and create citizens and leaders that are educated in every sense of the word--leaders that are equipped with tools they need to build a greater nation and give back to their communities.
Mission
Early childhood education lays the foundation for everything. It is a critical piece in breaking generational illiteracy and plays a role in the future of a child and the community. Historically, education has been the most significant differentiator between developed and underdeveloped communities–making equitable access to education an important aspect of pulling a community out of poverty and creating self-sustaining individuals.
Values
Every morning before they start school, our students say the national anthem of Ethiopia, pray, and eat breakfast together. We foster an environment where our students can build strong moral values. We see moral education to be as critical as an academic education and we have it integrated into our curriculum. We want to ensure that we are not only building intelligent and well rounded citizens but also emphatic leaders.
Breaking patterns of generational illiteracy
We were strategic in choosing the location--Debre Tsege is a densely populated area, but the nearest school is a 2 hours walk away. Before Kidus School was founded, most of our students were helping their families farm instead of pursuing an education and following in their parent's footsteps and becoming farmers themselves.
Providing equitable access to education
Every spring we open up registraton for the next school year and interested families can apply for admission. In our admission process take a few things into consideration. We determine whether families are able to afford a private school education or if they have a public school that students can attend in their region.
Removing barriers for students
We want to remove alll the barriers that hold our students back from receiving formal education. Kidus Schools provide everything students need from uniforms, to stationary and feeds students one meal each day for every student so our students can focus on their education. All we require from our students is to show up, learn, and work hard.
